Golf Side Bets
Side bets, or junk, can really make for some entertaining golf. How much the junk is worth should be set before the round commences and should be kept to a small amount as it can really add up depending on how much junk you allow for.
Birdie
One under par. If you didn't know this, you probably shouldn't be betting on golf.
Sandy
A successful sand shot followed by a one putt. Optional - you have to make par or better.
Greeny
Reaching the green in one shot. Optional - Only the closest to the pin counts.
Chippy
Sinking a shot from off the green.
Woody
Being able to make par or better after clanking one off a tree.
Polie
Having a putt hit the hole and then roll farther away from the hole than the height of the flagstick.
Arnie
Named after Arnold Palmer, the Arnie is awarded for completing a hole at par or better without the ball ever touching the fairway. Not valid on par 3's obviously.
The Zoo or Animals
This is a great game that lets you add a little insult to injury on the golf course. Animal cards are awarded to a golfer for making a bad shot. That golfer keeps the card until another player gets into the same trouble, and the card is then passed on to them. The player holding the card at the end of the round must pay up.
- Monkey - Hitting a tree.
- Fish - Splashing a shot in the water.
- Camel - Landing in a sand bunker.
- Gorilla - Hitting the ball out of bounds.
- Snake - Three or more putts on a hole.
